Abstract: Maintaining industrial machines is crucial for achieving zero-defects manufacturing in Industry 4.0. However, Europe faces challenges due to a shortage of qualified maintenance technicians and the complexity of new robotic machines. Augmented Reality (AR) can address these issues, but high development costs hinder its adoption. Custom AR applications are economically viable only for expensive machines, leaving many automotive industry suppliers without viable AR maintenance solutions. To bridge this gap, the AR4MACHINES platform was developed to democratize access to AR-powered maintenance applications. This platform allows companies to design, create, and deploy AR interfaces via a web browser, simplifying the process and reducing costs. The AR interfaces are then accessed through a mobile application on the shop floor. This project advanced from TRL 5 to TRL 7, resulting in a minimum viable product ready for commercial discussions, facilitating quicker and more cost-effective deployment of AR solutions in industrial settings.
