In our Open Call, we targeted digitalisation of the manufacturing industry. Therefore, we fund development, testing, validation, and market uptake of Industry 4.0 solutions of technology provider SMEs and startups, by increasing the Technology Readiness Level (TRL)/maturity of the proposed solutions in delivering innovative goods, services and processes. 

We have received proposals that included the collaboration of technology provider SMEs and industry partners for project applications. The industry partners act as end-users of the proposed solutions and two funding schemes  were supported according to two maturity levels: TRL 5-7 and TRL 8-9… find out more

The detailed version of the application form, following the exact chapters required on the Platform, can be found in Annex 1. There are two compulsory Annexes to be uploaded (Annex 4 and Annex 5), while Annex 2 Administrative Data for multiple applicants/partners and Annex 3 Letter of Intent from large company are only uploaded if applicable. Name: Cloud-based software platform to scale up the development of Augmented Reality applications for the maintenance of industrial machines

Abstract: Developing augmented reality (AR) applications for Industry 4.0 is a complex task that requires very specialized human resources, leading to high costs. This project will develop and test a cloud-based AR4MACHINES platform that will democratize the access to industrial maintenance applications powered by AR. This approach considerably facilitates the deployment of AR on the industrial shop floor, by hiding the complex programming and configurations, behind an intuitive web interface.

Name: ARI Mobile Autonomous Floor Maintenance and Inspection Robot

Abstract: ARA ARI is an autonomous commercial grade/capacity mobile floor maintenance, disinfection and inspection robot that can vacuum, wash, scrub and disinfect floors as well as gathering floor integrity and air quality information. This robot also has a cradle that can drain, flush, refill, charge and maintain itself automatically without human intervention.

AWAke

Name: Augmenting Workers to Adapt to quick changes in production

Abstract: AWAke augments workers with a NLU-enabled intelligent mobile tool based on Ancora Worker Connect. Workers receive voice and visual instructions and push information in real time to the decision systems. AWAke frees workers from unnecessary detail, reduces cognitive load, organizes actions to maximize productivity, and transparently checks consistency. We will validate AWAke with our industry partner INDAERO, whose workers will use AWAke to complete quality procedures of manufactured components.

BIQUAD

Name: Bring Intelligence to QUality Assurance Devices

Abstract: BIQUAD lowers one of the obstacles that slow down the adoption of artificial intelligence on Vision Inspection Systems for Quality Assurance. Specifically, BIQUAD allows to simplify and speed up the training phase that each visual AI must complete before the delivery to the customers. R2M, by extending an existing prototype, will improve the usage of Augmented Reality and integrate AI Visual Transformers to allow an efficient generation of new visual training sets, starting from existing images.

DIGIMON

Name: DIGital twIn for MetalwOrkiNg supply chain

Abstract: DIGIMON aims at implementing a digital twin of the production and supply chain of Bordoni Bonfiglio, a metalworking SME base in Italy. Starting from the existing supply chain of the industrial partner, DIGIMON will aim at achieving a better plan for purchase process (reduction of warehouse stocks of 60%), at implementing push procedures for customers orders and at reducing raw material waste (from 20% to <2%).

DigVessel

Name: Digital Twin for optimizing the manufacturing of pressure vessels by filament winding method

Abstract: The DigVessel project aims at creating a virtual representation of filament winding process for the manufacturing of defect free pressure vessel structures by utilizing critical Industry 4.0 technologies. Sensor data will be analyzed (on-line, in-line) at real-time to determine the safety margins for the pressure vessels. The main primary outcome will be an innovative digital twin (TRL 6) based on the MODELTA platform which has been built from DELTA to keep track of all the operational stages.

Name: IoT Data Analytics Platform for Industry 4.0

Abstract:Project iData40 sets out with the goal of advancing Enforma IIoT Analytics Platform from TRL-5 to TRL-7 in 9 months. This goal will be achieved by adding new features, improving existing ones, and overall, validating, verifying, and piloting the platform by deploying it on our co-applicant PlusClouds’s cloud architecture in an operational environment of our industrial partners, Isuzu Automotive & Kocaer Steel. MANTISSA

Name: An AI-driven solution towards a green and smart transformation of the inventory and warehouse management of manufacturing SMEs, increasing their resiliency to supply chain disruptions

Abstract: Mantissa addresses the logistics and supply chain management challenges of the manufacturing sector. It is a solution for digitizing key operations concerning the inventory and warehouse management of small to mid-sized manufacturing companies. It includes a voice-picking system, to shift from paper-based order management to hands-free operations, and an AI-based module, that optimises the warehouse inventory. The solution will be piloted in Rosver, an Italian SME producing abrasive products.

Name: PRODE SMART PORTABLE DETECTOR

Abstract: Textile Companies execute tissues quality checking via human visual inspection normally provided with a machine that illuminates the tissue while it scrolls up on a oblique board. Its takes time, delaying the production and it’s not free of errors, many tissue anomalies are hidden to the human eye and more, the chemical and structural properties are not checked. Prode execute surface, structure and chemical mapping of the tissue assuring the quality needed since the production beginning.

RIM

Name: Robots Imitate Magos

Abstract: Many industrial processes remain being executed manually due to the necessary dexterity to perform them and their complexity to be replicated and automated. RIM utilizes a sensorized glove (Magos) to gather hand movements, and translates them into a tangible set of instructions and trajectories to feed diverse combinations of robot and a gripper model designed by SIEMENS. RIM decreases the development time of robotic trajectories and gripping strategies in extreme dexterity implementations. 

ROSBIQI

Name: RObotic System for Brass Ingots Quality Inspection

Abstract: The challenge proposed in this experiment is based on the design and development of a robotic and AI computer vision inspection system to detect impurities in for brass ingots. Latones del Carrion is one of the European leaders of brass ingots manufacturers and has a challenging problem to identify the inclusions of other materials in their brass ingots which affect to their quality (See letter of intent)

SmartZavod

Name: Hardware as a Service Solution, that replaces the entire lab of professional prototyping equipment with one machine or browser.

Abstract: The proposal is to: 

– Develop and test the automated 3D-printer SmartZavod and HaaS model, and to move the solution from TRL 5 to TRL7;

– Integrate HaaS model into partner’s development and production cycle, as typical industrial SME – low series products manufacturing enterprises with low ROI into expensive 3D printers.

– The proposed solution allows flexible remote use of a 3D printer on demand without high entry costs.

Name: ValueChainGenerator (VCG.AI): A platform to enable industry 4.0 manufacturers to enhance resource efficiency through targeted cross-regional & cross-sectoral resource-based supply-chain collaboration

Abstract: The project’s objective is to further develop, test, and validate our digital manufacturing resource management platform, in collaboration with a renowned industry partner Pivovarna Laško Union (Heineken Slovenia).

Using AI, VCG.AI supports manufacturers in better resource efficiency across their material streams and improving sustainability performance by centralizing the overview of their material stream and finding circular collaboration opportunities in a large industry 4.0 value network.

Name: NET zero navigation platform FOR eneRgy intEnSIve induSTries

Abstract: The NET4RESIST Project aims to develop a data-driven energy management system for supporting industrial facilities to reduce their energy consumption and related carbon emission under Scope 2. The innovative approach of the project is that the proposed monitoring platform combines industries’ energy efficiency, cost reduction and net zero targets with a multi-objective and data driven decision support system. Abstract: Through Industry 4.0, machine data is utilized for maximum efficiency. Nevertheless, companies do not measure human-involved activities on the shop floor. Therefore, valuable data is being lost. Current AI-based video analytics solutions to digitize manual work are applicable for large companies but not feasible for SMEs due to the long AI training processes and hardware needs. DIGITSME is a demonstration of a new plug&play, easy-to-train, no hardware solution in a manufacturing SME.

Name: Increasing production efficiency and sustainability for MUSA

Abstract: KFactory (Kognitive Manufacturing Tech SRL) is the most relevant Industry 4.0 scaleup from Romania and the first startup funded in this area in Romania.

KFactory is helping manufacturing companies to digitize their business flows, to increase performance and productivity, ensuring in the same the sustainability according to the new regulations as set in European Green Deal . By using KFactory, manufacturing companies have increased performance up to 25% and up to 100% less manual work.
